Untitled Folding

about

Untitled Folding is the performance from the release party for Folding In On Itself, recorded in New York City on May 12, 2011. The set is very much connected to the album in scope and feel - warm electroacoustic settings with muted kick drums and spacious melodic fragments - but it is a disassembly and reassembly of those pieces, an improvised arrangement based on loops and individual sounds, which also makes liberal use of elements from other material, both finished and in-process. In comparison to the album from which it originates Untitled Folding is more open-ended and creates different relationships among sounds, coaxing them into one new, fluid piece. The hope is that it retains a narrative sense and perhaps more so because of the extended and continuous nature of it.

Untitled Folding was officially released with cover art that is a painting on a 10"x10" piece of wood (that comes with an edge that can be hung on a nail as-is). Rather than a duplicated cover, there are 33 different versions, though they are all connected by the piece of music that accompanies them. The paintings that are still available from the original 33 can be found on the merchandise page section. (The image pictured here is Untitled Folding #20.)

Ezekiel Honig New York, New York

Using the loop as more of a tool than a rule, Ezekiel Honig's emotively warm electronic-acoustic music nestles into a comfortable, shared space between melodic, event-driven ambient, muted techno, textural downtempo, and slowmotion house. Plastic, metal, wood, and air coalesce with Rhodes, guitar, horns, and piano, pairing inviting, fuzzy chords with clunky and dirty mishaps. ... more
